Vintage Finds

I, a cultured shopped was convinced it would be hard finding fashionable, vintage-inspired items that were original, yet inexpensive in this tiny city I call home. We have two main malls and two other major shopping centres for buying clothes. I find that while the prices of clothes here aren't bad, you'll find about a million other people walking around in the same outfit. There are only two other options. One is downtown shopping. Downtown has a bunch of quaint and adorable, locally-owner boutiques with very trendy, unique and striking clothing items. That being said, shopping for clothes downtown can be verryy pricey. The other option is to shop online, which I've fallen into the horrible habit of doing lately. It really hurts my bank account, though, in the long run, since even while the cost of the individual item may be cheap, it costs an arm and a leg to ship it here.

So, I have resorted to another type of shopping. Thrift store shopping! Dare I say it, but I've honestly found some AMAZING deals on items in there. Things that look like I could have easily bought off of ModCloth or Ruche but 90% less cheaper. The following items were bought recently from a Thrift store. I am so proud of myself for lucking into some GREAT deals!:

A beautiful autumn leaf printed scarf

A lovely pink and purple floral scarf, perfect for the last of these summer days

A black and red floral strapless dress. Perfect for the transition from summer to fall!

With a belt I already owned:

I am also all about finding trends in vintage shops that are all-the-rage in brand new stores, only a fraction of the cost of a brand name item. For example, this black chiffon blouse. I've seen a multiple of girl with the exact same one almost from American Apparel. I LOVE AA, but it is sooo uber expensive. I was really going for this look:

But I found this. An oversized black chiffon blouse with lace detailing around the buttons:

Today's outfit:

I find working with high school kids all day a challenge because you want to look professional and stay comfortable, yet, you always want to add a touch of your own personal style without feeling boring.

Today I paired the pink and purple floral scarf with a purple off-the-shoulder tee, jeans, a braided belt, vintage gold earrings, and my favorite pair of red Toms.

Lovin' these gold vintage earrings I also got for dirt cheap!

Braided belt to tie it all together!

Full outfit. Don't judge the ugly dorm room I've been sleeping in! I swear it's clean!

Love the clothes, I do!

Have a great day :)

Tom's and sundresses

So, it's not Disney princesses this time, but it's my favorite summer style this year. So comfy and casual, yet, so girly and elegant. It's perfect for going out when you aren't sure whether to dress up or down. I've also paired it with coordinating lipsticks and nail polishes. Sundresses can be bought just about anywhere for pretty cheap. And while Tom's shoes can be pricey, they are going towards a great cause. By purchasing one pair, you are also buying another pair of shoes for a child in a third-world country. Not to mention, they are SUPER comfy. I wear mine ALL the time!

Happy summer =)

Beauty and the Beast Inspired

My ULTIMATE favorite movie as a child. Words cannot describe the love I have for Beauty and the Beast. Even though it is a tale as old as time, I will never become bored of it! The songs are pure magic which I'm sure every little girl who grew up in the 90's knows every word to them! I never want to grow old after watching this movie =)

Sixteen Going On Seventeen

One of my favorites as a child and still today. <3

Fashion and food

I mentioned how I spent most of yesterday with my friend Stacey. We went to Starbucks for drinks and then to the Thrift Store for some vintage shopping. I am loving how I can buy things for dirt cheap and have such stylish items. I am really loving the pastels, the floral prints and layered silk scarfs for this seasons, most of which I found in the Thrift Shop. I spent altogether under 40 dollars for 9 items, which would have probably cost me over 200 dollars if I bought it in the mall.

(Please don't judge my carpet! It's the old one in the basement next to the washing machine, as I refuse to wear these clothes before washing them first!)

I love, love, love this pink clutch. I wear so much pink on a regular basis and is good when I'm wearing neutrals and blacks for that pop of color in my outfit. It can tottally be worn with a casual or dressy outfit. I also love how I can wear it with or without a strap.

This pink dress is perfect for spring and summer. I can wear it to a wedding or church OR I can also make it super casual and throw on a jean jacket over it. I love the pink crinoline layer underneath :)

I love this green satin skirt. It is a little short, but pairing with a pair of black leggings would look super cute. I can also dress this skirt up or down.

This floral shirt is the epiphany of what I want my summer style to be :) While I can just wear it loose and buttoned-up, it is a bit big on me so I figured I could also tie it up as a crop top, put a dark cami on underneath and wear it with a pair of high waisted jeans or shorts!

(Tied up as a crop top)

This skirt is my FAVORITE item that I bought at the Thrift Shop. I really, really wanted a short, flouncy floral skirt to wear for this season but not spend a lot of money, since the warm weather does NOT last long where I live. This skirt incorporates all the colors I have in my wardrobe already, so I can wear it with virtually anything and it would match! Also, only $4.99 !! =)

The next few scarfs I bought were for a dollar - altogether!!!

LOVE me some deals!!

I started planning for some of the food I want to have at my party. I really don't want to spend too much money, so I'm trying to think of creative ideas that won't break the bank, but look super adorable and taste great at the same time.

Some things I want to have:

+Party Mix
+Crush (It comes in neon colors - perfect for an 80's party - orange, lime, pinapple, and cream soda)
+chips and onion dip with hot pink food coloring
+bright orange Doritos chips
+Ketchup Chips
+Cheesies
+Veggie and fruit trays
+Mayybeee hot wings
+deserts and rainbow "Like a Virgin" (Get it?! "Like a Virgin"? Madonna? The 80's? Yeah? Okay, I'm lame)

Some Ideas I have for desserts:

Colored oreo truffles (I'll post the recipe later on =) ):

Maybe not THIS elaborate, but you get my point. They are actually super easy to make!

Neon Cupcake Tree:

Cake Batter Rice Crispy Treats:

Rainbow "Like A Virgin" Jello Shots (Alcohol Free!):

Yummy yummy.
Hope you all have a wonderful day =)

Cheesy Christmas

32 days.

I haven't bought a lick.
Nadda.
I'm so contrary this year.
I hate how Christmas is so commercialized. It gets worse every. year.

Last year, my best friend made me a scrapbook of all the fun things we've done together since we've been friends, and I cried. I think it was the best gift anyone has ever given me in my life.

It's become the holiday to become spoiled rotten and get free stuff.

I love it all the same, the non-present side of it.
Well, the presents too. But I don't like to focus on only that.

I think people who have families should be thankful for them and do things that they normally would never have time for during the rest of the year. Play a family game together, go sledding, decorate the tree together (not just mom doing it all. everyoneeeee contributing), baking cookies together, watching holiday movies / tv specials together, driving around town to look at all the christmas lights together, singing carols together on christmas eve, reading the christmas story together.. the "cheesy stuff".

I'm really into the good-old family traditions of Christmas.

I think people should just have fun, and do the best you can with trying to buy the perfect gift for everyone. No stressing. Get your shopping done early, if you can, to avoid the stressful crowds. Put up your Christmas tree the last week in November. Holidays are meant to be enjoyed. Take advantage of them while you can.

I'm thinking of Christmas shopping THIS week. Get 'er all done in one shot. Maybe tommorow. Or Friday, considering I have no school today, tommorow, or friday :)

I have my first effing exam two weeks from Wednesday. That is bullshit.

But I'm done earlier than most, so I like it that way. I can enjoy Christmas to my heart's content after December 13th at 3pm :)

Okay. Gotta write up a two page summary on how homelessness jeopardises one's self-esteem and makes them more likely to suffer from mental illness. How merry and bright.

Ohh!

First holiday Fashion blog :

Top: Forever 21
Skirt: American Apparel
Tights: Icing by Claire's

I like tradtional colors or red, green and gold, but I'm also a huge fan of the "frosty" colors of christmas. Reminds me of sugar cookies. Pastels, whites, pearls, and silvers. Warm furry boots and mittains, layered pastel sweaters and colored tights :)
Make me happy.

Okay. More Christmas cheer journals later :)

Harem Pants

So I ordered these thing called "harem pants" off gojane.com. I want people's honest opinion. I think they could be dressed up or down. They remind me of something that Aladdin would wear, but yet, I love them.

These are the ones.

I figure I could dress them down and wear them to the gym.

Or, I could dress them up and wear them to school, at a club or party. Some ideas:

To a party / club:

Love :)

Except this is a HUGE no:

Looks like they have a "weight" of something unintentional down there. Like somene didn't make it to the bathroom in time. It's gross, I know. But that's honestly what it looks like.. People should be ashamed of themselves for wearing THAT!

Anyway, I love MY harem pants :)

A few things...

So, I am going to have a very busy next few days.
I am currently working on a 10 page paper due one week from yesterday.
Also, I have to prepare to teach a seminar to my class on Spirituality in Mental Health. On top of that, I have a mental health exam one week from this upcomming Wednesday. They should have never called it Midterm "Break". Honestly, what kind of break is this??
I don't think I've actually HAD a "break" since my second year of university, while I was still in general studies.

I also had a semi-break in my winter semester of second year. But basically that whole semester was a break for me.

I am looking forward to Halloween so much. Matthew and I were supposed to have a party at his place, but it's not going down now because his roomate had a party and almost burned the place down last weekend. So, Matt had to put his foot down and basically say, no parties. Not sure where we are going now, or what we're doing, as long as it's fun and Halloween-ish.

I have to start making my costume prettttyy soon.

haha :)

So, I still have not been to the new American Apparel yet here in town. Am I crazy.? I'm pretty sure I'm going to ask for a big dirty gift certificate from there for Christmas, because I honest to goodness LOVE that store. So much retro inspiration.

Speaking of retro, I'm convincing the nursing society to have a neon 80's mixer after exams. I think it's going ahead, and I think I might scream. Just a bittt *cough* alot.

I would so do this.

Ohhh HAAAAAYYY!

I would be in my Glee.

Speaking of Glee. I am an episode behind. Gotta watch that before Tuesday!!

So, I have not dressed yet, therefore, I do not have an outfit to show off for today. However, I do have my outfit from yesterday. It reminds me of the time I played Mimi in the musical "Rent". Ahh, nostalgia :)

Awww, me and Ange'

Well, yes, my outfit from yesterday was a little more "hard core" than my usual style. But I received lots of compliments.

Jacket: Sirens
Green Top: Winners
Necklace: Smart Set
Jeggings: Sirens

I also paired it up with my lovely jazz flats and this makeup I got from Faces Cosmetics in Toronto:

Loves fashion, I do!

Okay, back to academia-land I go.
Ciao
xoxo

Bonjour!

Hello Everyone

So the past few days I have been super busy studying for a pediatrics exam which I had today. I studied immensely, but I studied the wrong way, if that makes sense without going into details. I don't know what to make of it. It was a trickster.

Oh well, it certainly gave me the wake up call telling me I have to cut the slack and get down to business. I haven't done much since before last week when I started studying. The first weekend of school, I went out to a mixer. The second weekend of school, I went to my cousin's weekend. Only the past two weekend have I actually tried to make a decent effort in doing school stuff.

Anywhoo, 'nuff about school because it depresses me. I missed the last episode of Glee and a Disney movie night at Grant's last night because I had to freakin' study.

Sooooooooo

What Am I wearing today, right?
That's right!
I am wearing a very Parisan, artist-inspired outfit.
It's what I call one of my study outfits.

Very relaxed and comfortable.

Sweater: Sirens
Striped Tee: Gift (from Bluenotes)
Scarf: Gift (Matty got it in Poland!)
Jeans: Brody brand fr. Bootlegger
MJ Flats: Spring

Loveee.

The sweater-weather has officially started! :)

There will be more sweater-incorperated outfits in the future.

Now, off to clean my room and write a paper, I go!
